Fort McPherson RCMP arrest 12 year-old youth after report of shots fired

Police in Fort McPherson have arrested and charged a youth after responding to a report of shots fired in the community.

Fort McPherson RCMP reported today that the incident occurred on May 16 at about 5:23 a.m. Police received a report that a 12-year-old male suspect had fired a gun through the window of a residence and had uttered threats to kill another youth who was inside a residence. 

 Police immediately responded and were able to locate the suspect at a different residence. They were able to enter the residence and arrest the young male suspect without further incident. A firearm that was believed to be used in the incident was recovered by police. 

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. 

The suspect, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is facing a number of charges in relation to the incident , including: 

  •         Discharging a firearm with intent, contrary to section 244 of the Criminal Code;
  •         Possession of a firearm while knowing possession is unauthorized, contrary to section 92(1) of the Criminal Code;
  •         Unauthorized possession of a firearm, contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code;
  •         Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88(1) of the Criminal Code;
  •         Unsafe storage of a firearm, contrary to section 86(2) of the Criminal Code;
  •         Uttering threats against a person, contrary to section 264.1(1) of the Criminal Code (2 counts);
  •         Uttering threats against property, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;
  •         Mischief under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code.

RCMP report that the 12-year-old male has been remanded into custody and appeared in Territorial Court on Tuesday, May 20.
