RCMP order forbids two Alberta men facing charges from re-entering NWT

Following the search of an Alberta residence on April 3, two Alberta men are now facing drug charges. Both men were released by the Fort Smith RCMP on condition they remain outside NWT, with the exception of court appearances

On April 3 officers in Fort Smith were called to an abandoned housing unit that was reported to be unlawfully occupied and connected to the drug trade.

Police who responded to the call found two male suspects in the house and a quantity of cocaine in plain view.

The two suspects were arrested and the residence was held by police as a search warrant was obtained.

The Territorial Crime Reduction Unit was engaged for operational support.

Officers searched the residence, seizing approximately 311 grams of suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia along with $360 in cash.

Jarrod Gullion, 18, and Miguel Deschamps, 19, both of Alberta are now facing drug charges.

Both men were released by the RCMP on condition they remain outside NWT, with the exception of court appearances

The RCMP report that Gullion and Deschamps, both of Alberta, have been charged with:

Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Both Guillion and Deschamps appeared before a Justice of the Peace. They were subsequently released on conditions that require they remain outside NWT with the exception of attending scheduled court dates.

Guillion and Deschamps are scheduled to appear in court again on June 11 in Fort Smith.

The RCMP report that the investigation remains ongoing.

Fort Smith RCMP thanked the public for their cooperation and assistance in providing information and evidence in the investigation.

“Fort Smith RCMP wish to express their gratitude to community members and partners who assist police in combatting the illicit drug trade. Members of the public continue to be the best source of information police have when gathering evidence during Controlled Drug and Substances Act investigations,” said the RCMP in their April 4 media release.

The RCMP are asking anyone with information on this or other drug-related crimes to contact the Fort Smith RCMP at 867-872-1111 or Crime Stoppers at http://www.p3tips.com. In the event of an emergency, the RCMP ask the public to call 911.
