Ulukhaktok RCMP Conduct Search for Missing Boater

RCMP in the community of Ulukhaktok recently conducted a search for an overdue boater.

Officers were first made aware of the missing individual on September 27th, when they failed to return from a trip in an 18-foot, red Lund boat. An RCMP Search Manager was immediately assigned to the matter, and an official Search and Rescue operation was started.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre covered the search on the water, which involved the use of two Canadian Coast Guard vessels, a rotary wing aircraft, a C-130 Hurcules, and various local search and rescue vehicles.

Search efforts extended to the Kiijivik camp and inland, as well as around the hamlet. After extensive efforts, the JRCC made the decision to suspend the search for the time being. The individual has not yet been found, and their whereabouts are still unknown.
