After serving three terms as the representative for the Northwest Territories in the House of Commons, Michael McLeod has announced that he will not seek re-election in the upcoming federal election. He will remain in his role for the rest of this government’s term.
He says, “There has been no greater honour in my life than to serve as the Member of Parliament for the Northwest Territories for the past nine years. After due consideration and many conversations with my family, I have decided that I will not be seeking another term in the next federal election.”
From the outset, McLeod says he focused on championing the interests of Northerners by increasing local federal investments, bolstering social supports, strengthening Indigenous communities and furthering reconciliation.
McLeod will be asking that the party leadership begin the process of electing a new candidate before the next election.
