Grants Available for Summer Recreation Programs

The NWT Recreation and Parks Association is looking to support local organizations who wish to get their communities involved in recreational activities over the summer.

Starting on May 1st, parks and recreation groups can apply for “Get Active” grants for special events taking place throughout June, which is Recreation and Parks Month. Groups that apply for the grants have a chance to receive $400 to help organize an event in their community to help keep residents active. There is also a chance that a group will receive $500 to help organize a recreation event specifically for the elders in the community.

Nuka de Jocas, Active Communities Director of the NWTRPA, said in a statement that “Get Active grants is a great way to encourage local groups and organizations to celebrate Recreation and Parks Month by hosting or participating in community physical activity events. Taking part in recreation and on the land programs is an easy way to improve your overall wellbeing.”

The Government of Canada has been attempting to promote the benefits of community recreation through “The Pathways to Wellbeing – A Framework for Recreation in Canada.”

Any groups interested in applying for the grants can do so by clicking here.
