The Northwest Territories RCMP responded to approximately 313 calls for service over the December 1st weekend.
On December 1st, at 11:05 p.m. the Deline RCMP received a complaint indicating that a man had been injured after a dispute with another man. RCMP attended and learned that the victim had been hit in the head with a shovel by another man. The victim did not require medical attention. This matter remains under investigation.
On December 2nd, at 4:57 p.m. the Fort Providence RCMP received a complaint reporting a traffic collision. RCMP attended and learned that a white pick-up truck had been driving in the wrong lane of traffic and hit the complainant’s vehicle, causing damage to the side view mirror of the complainant’s vehicle. RCMP were told that the suspect vehicle did not stop to exchange details with the complainant but continued on towards the highway. RCMP made patrols to try and locate the vehicle but the suspect vehicle was not located. The incident is still under investigation.
On December 2nd, at 7:03 p.m. the Behchoko RCMP received a report of a motor vehicle collision from an iPhone SOS alert. The RCMP determined that the driver of the vehicle had collided with a group of bison before being picked up by a transport truck driver. The Department of Environment and Climate Change were called to dispatch a number of injured bison. The driver received minor injuries including cuts and bruises. Bison are hard to spot in the dark and RCMP are reminding driver’s that we share our roadways with these animals. Please drive with extra caution in areas where bison are known to frequent and remember that slippery road conditions are likely to effect how quickly you can slow or stop to avoid wildlife.
On December 3rd, at 12:47 a.m. the Yellowknife RCMP received a complaint reporting that a woman was armed with a knife and was trying to break into an apartment. Yellowknife RCMP officers responded to the complaint and found a 65-year-old woman brandishing a meat cleaver and banging on an apartment door. The woman was taken into custody without injury to her or the officers and charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, are pending.
