R.C.M.P deem Fort Resolution house fire to be non-suspicious

Yellowknife, NWT – Fort Resolution R.C.M.P say they have handed an investigation into a lethal house fire in the community over to the coroner and fire marshal.

The local fire department and police responded to the fire on Friday afternoon.

Sergeant Barry Ledoux with the Yellowknife detachment says at this time there is no reason to suspect foul play.

“The local fire department was able to extinguish the flames allowing for a search to be done a short time later. It was unfortunate because they did find a deceased occupant inside the home. The R.C.M.P have deemed this investigation non-suspicious and are now assisting other agencies.”

Police have not released the identity of the victim.

Town officials say the house was not completely destroyed, but that damage is extensive.
