Yukon government offers aid to G.N.W.T if fire conditions worsen

Yellowknife, NWT – The Government of Yukon has extended an offer to the G.N.W.T to host fellow northern residents affected by forest fires should it be required.

The Yukon government’s Wildland Fire Management branch has already sent more than 50 personnel to the N.W.T over the past month to provide assistance fighting forest fires.

Should the situation require any temporary relocation of residents, Yukon Premier Darrell Pasloski says his territory is prepared to host its neighbours and assist with transportation support.

Yukon government officials say they have contacted their emergency preparedness partners, including the R.C.M.P and the city of Whitehorse, to inform them of the offer of support to the N.W.T and to request their assistance should Yukon be called upon.
