The investigation of a structure fire in Hay River has led local police to seizing a large cache of firearms, drugs, and money.
At 7:00am on November 5th, Hay River officers were informed of a structure fire inside the community. Once the fire was taken care of, an insecure firearm was found amongst the rubble. A search warrant was requested and secured, whereupon further investigation found an additional six firearms, as well as ammunition, a small amount of suspected crack cocaine already packaged for sale, $3,266 in Canadian money, and $150 in US money. Other signs of drug trafficking were observed.
The fire is being considered as a case of arson and is currently being investigated. No arrests have been made at this time, and no nearby houses were damaged in the fire.
