RCMP seize $9K in Hay River traffic stop

Several thousand dollars were recently seized by Hay River officers while conducting a traffic stop.

On Oct. 8, Hay River RCMP were on patrol and encountered a speeding vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted, and the occupants were arrested. An investigation of the vehicle uncovered more than $9,000 in cash which is believed to be the proceeds of drug trafficking. Also found in the vehicle were multiple cell phones and several pieces of drug trafficking supplies.

Both occupants of the vehicle, 20-year-old Salim Abdullahi Abdi of Edmonton and 53-year-old Bruce Dowdeswell from Fort Simpson, have been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.

Abdullahi Abdi has already appeared before a Justice of the Peace, and is being held in custody. Dowdeswell was released on strict conditions, and both men are waiting on a later court appearance. The investigation into this matter is ongoing.

Anyone who has additional information is asked to contact the Hay River RCMP at 874-1111.
