Inuvik RCMP are asking the public to keep on the lookout for any counterfeit money that may be circulating in the area.
In recent days, local officers have received several reports of fake money being used in the community. These bills can often be identified easily upon closure scrutiny, as there are several physical indicators that they are fake.
Some of the signs to look out for include the presence of Chinese letters on the bill, as well as black bars, inconsistent sizes of the images and letters on the bill, and an overall lack of quality in the appearance of the bill.
In the event that counterfeit money is encountered during an exchange, the police advise that businesses simply refuse the money, and advise the person in possession of the bills that they may have been unaware that their money is fake. Anyone who finds themselves in possession of counterfeit bills should turn the fake money over to the police.
Investigation into these reports is ongoing.  Anyone who has information is asked to contact the Inuvik RCMP at 777-1111.
