Fort Smith Prepares for Weekend Music Festival

The Town of Fort Smith is getting ready for the return of a very special music festival.

Taking place over the August 23rd weekend, the Fireweed Festival will have the theme of “Rising from the Flames, United in Music,” based on showcasing the resilience and unity of the community through musical and artistic performances.

The Town was able to book a total of 33 musical acts on three different stages, with 13 artists coming from outside the NWT. In addition to the music, there will be 36 vendors offering a wide range of artistic pieces, crafts, and foods. Games and activities will also be available for all guests.

In an effort to further grow the artistic spirit of the community, the Northern Life Museum will be putting together a series of workshops leading up to the Festival. These workshops will help locals develop their personal artistic abilities, as well as keep them engaged with the region’s cultural heritage.

Jolene Bourque, one of the organizers for the Festival, said in a statement that they are “thrilled to bring the community together once again to celebrate the incredible talent and culture we have here in the Northwest Territories. The Fireweed Festival NT is all about community, creativity, and connection, and we can’t wait to share this experience with everyone.”

Proceeds from merchandise sales during the Festival will be going towards future events and initiatives in the community.
