The GNWT is looking for Northern residents who would be interested in joining the Arctic Winter Games Internation Committee as the new Director.
The AWGIC is in charge of supervising the development and implementation of the annual games. As expected, there are several important conditions in order for an application to be accepted. Applicants must be NWT residents over the age of 18 who are interested in and supportive of youth sports and the Arctic Winter Games. They must have experience in business, volunteer sport organizations, and multisport games organizations.
There are even a few factors that will make an individual ineligible for consideration, such as being a GNWT employee, being a board member or staff member of an organization that receives funding for sport and recreational programs, and Individuals who have not passed a criminal record check.
Some of the expectations for the position have been provided:
- The term for this position begins October 2024
- AWGIC Directors can serve for four years and are eligible for reappointment according to AWGIC bylaws
- AWGIC Directors attend monthly video conference meetings and three to four meetings per year in future host communities (typically a five-to-seven-day commitment for each trip) as well as attending the Arctic Winter Games every two years (10-day commitment) with travel costs covered
- AWGIC Directors must be able to commit time and resources to serve as volunteers
