A man from Inuvik has just received multiple sexual offence charges.
44-year-old Richard Steven McKinnon, who served as the Assistant Superintendent of the Beaufort-Delta Education Council, was arrested on August 5th and charged with two counts of Sexual Assault, Sexual Interference, two counts of Sexual Exploitation, Invitation to Sexual Touching, Making Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Child, Assault, and Breach of Trust.
McKinnon has been released on the condition that he appear in territorial court on September 24th in Inuvik.
Investigators believe that due to the Nature of McKinnon’s position on the Education Council that there may be more victims that have yet to be discovered. Anybody who may believe themselves to be one of McKinnon’s victims or who has additional information that could be relevant are encouraged to contact their local RCMP.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to keep an eye out for any signs that a child or youth is being targeted, and report it to the police.
