Man Arrested in Tuktoyaktuk after Active Shooter Incident

A man was recently arrested in Tuktoyaktuk after endangering the community with a firearm.

The incident occurred early in the morning on July 1st, when Tuktoyaktuk RCMP were informed of an active shooter within the community. With continuous support and updates from the community, the police were able to quickly locate the man and take him into custody.

While the man had fired a shotgun several times at vehicles that were parked in a residential area, there were no injuries caused by this incident.

30-year-old Richard Voudrach has been charged with:

  • Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
  • Careless Use of a Firearm
  • Weapons Possession Contrary to Order, and
  • Mischief Over $5,000.

Voudrach has already appeared before a Justice of the Peace, and is being held in custody until a later court appearance. The RCMP have issued their thanks to the community members who assisted in apprehending the suspect and bringing the situation to an end safely.
