Yellowknife RCMP are currently investigating a homicide that took place at an apartment building on Friday.
The call came in around 12:45pm on Friday, May 17th. Officers were informed of a gun shot that was heard from the inside of an apartment at 42 Con Road. When they arrived on the scene, they found a 31-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS arrived on the scene to help, but despite their efforts, the man passed away.
The investigation is being lead by the Northwest Territories Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Unit. The RCMP are asking the public for any information they may have to help with this matter.
Cpl. Matt Halstead, the Media Relations Officer for the RCMP, said in a statement that “any information, even something as small as just having heard something or seen someone moving around the building may be helpful to investigators. This incident marks the fourth homicide involving firearms in Yellowknife since November of 2023. Firearm related violence in has no place in our community. We need witnesses to come forward and to help us provide answers to the victim’s family who is now grieving an unimaginable loss.”
