Hay River RCMP received multiple calls reporting fireworks being detonated in a wooded area near the Woodland Drive school district on September 17.
Upon arrival, officers found evidence of fireworks being set off; however, police say the culprits have not been located.
“This offence is particularly egregious given the ongoing wildfire threat and recent evacuation of the community,” the RCMP says.
The use of fireworks is currently prohibited in the South Slave due to a fire ban in the region.
Currently, no suspects have been identified and police are seeking any information the public may have on the matter.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Hay River RCMP at (867)-874-1111.
