Evacuation flight slated to leave Hay River Thurday afternoon

An evacuation flight is being organized out of Hay River on Thursday afternoon, with municipal officials strongly urging anyone who remains in the town to head to the airport immediately. Those on the ground tell mytruenorthnow.com that the flight is likely to land in Hay River at approximately 2 p.m.

Town officials suggest it is critical to get to the airport as soon as possible Thursday for further information and to shelter in place.

On the fire front, additional crews, including 20 from Ontario and Saskatchewan will be in the area today, joining both ground and air support already in the area. According to the latest update from the town, crews continue to build an additional fire break for Delancey, which the fire is currently less than three kilometres from. The fire remains 11 kilometres from Hay River proper as of 10 a.m. Thursday.
