RCMP G Division Chief Superintendent Syd Lecky attended his first press conference today as part of his efforts as Commanding Officer to address the media more consistently.
Lecky spoke on several subjects including his first eight months as Commanding Officer, challenges and solutions, and his commitment to improve RCMP communications in the territory.
“My expectation is that we are going to be a little bit more forward-looking, available, and responsive,” Lecky says. “Not only are we going to address some of your concerns, but we plan on letting you know about some of the great things we’re doing,” he adds.
As part of the G Division’s commitment to improving media relations, Corporal Matt Halstead was recently appointed as a full-time Media Relations Officer under Lecky’s command, and Halstead says he is committed to providing quick and accurate information to the media as soon as it becomes available.
“I was given the opportunity to take on this role as my full time job, so I’m looking forward to giving it the attention and focus it deserves,” Halstead says.
