Fire Ban Issued for MacKinnon Territorial Park near Norman Wells

The GNWT has announced that a fire ban is currently in effect for the MacKinnon Territorial Park near Norman Wells.

The ban is due to the recent high temperatures and dry conditions experienced in the area in the last few days. The ban is already in place, and will last until further notice.

Camp stoves, enclosed BBQs and propane-fueled cooking and heating devices are permitted for use in NWT Parks. They must be placed within regulation fire pits and should not emit a flame more than 0.5 metres in diameter and 0.5 metres in height.

The City of Yellowknife has also officially put a fire ban in place on Friday, May 19th at noon. The city has stated that the current conditions inspired the Yellowknife Fire Division to ere on the side of caution, wishing to reduce the risk of wildfires in the area.
