Mark Heyck says he’s standing for re-election as Mayor of Yellowknife.
Heyck assumed office in 2012, having previously served as a city councillor since 2003.
Delivering a “state of the city” address at a Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce event on Monday, Heyck said he planned to seek re-election – following that statement with a tweet to similar effect.
It's been an honour and a privilege serving as Mayor for the past three years and I look forward to seeking re-election in October.

Earlier this year, Heyck said he enjoyed “being able to help guide the future of the community I love”.
Speaking to an in-house McGill University publication, Heyck added: “Local government is the one order of government where an individual can bring an idea to his or her council, and if you can persuade enough councillors that the idea has merit, it can be acted upon and implemented in a relatively short time frame.”
The municipal election is set for October 19, 2015.
