The United Way NWT awarded 18 non-profit organizations new funding as part of its annual Community Investment Fund.
They will each be receiving up to $7,500 in new funding for 2021 programming.
United Way NWT Chair Tracy St. Denis says they’ve helped NWT programs pivot due to Covid-19 and have seen communities come together in incredible ways to help support Northerners.
“This year has been exceptional in many ways. We are so pleased to add these deserving recipients to the United Way NWT family,” he adds.
St. Denis says the Committee reviewed all applications, taking into consideration key focus areas such as: from poverty to possibility; healthy people, strong communities; and all that kids can be.
“The successful recipients best fulfilled the United Way NWT’s mandate and will receive cheques to help fund programs and projects that will be delivered in the NWT in 2021.”
The recipients are Food First, Fort Smith Community Kitchen, Food Rescue, Dene Nahjo, St. Vincent de Paul, Children First Society (Inuvik), Ulukhaktok Food Bank, Inuvik Youth Centre, NWT Literacy Council, Hay River Committee for Persons with Disabilities, Community Garden Society of Inuvik, Inclusion NWT, Rainbow Coalition, Association franco-culturelle de Hay River, Ecology North, Hay River Senior Society, Hay River Soup Kitchen, and BACup North.
Ongoing contributions of $15,000 will be made to both The Yellowknife Women’s Society (in year three) and Mackenzie Valley Recreation Association (in year two) for a total of $45,000 each over three years.
