Major Crimes Unit charge man for concerning statements towards CPHO

NT RCMP Major Crimes Unit (MCU) has charged a 28-year-old man for statements made towards the Chief Public Health Officer.

On January 20th, RCMP received a report of a call was received at the office of the Chief Public Health Officer that included statements of a threatening nature. MCU began an investigation which resulted in the man being taken into custody on January 22nd.

Clinton Leussink, 28 of Alberta, has been charged with Intimidation and Uttering Threats. He will appear in Territorial court in Yellowknife on February 16th.

Superintendent Jeffrey Christie, Criminal Operations Officer in Charge says that while the RCMP usually does not disclose the identity of a victim of crime, it was very concerning to learn of the reports of a threatening statement made towards the Chief Public Health Officer.

“Everyone, including the CPHO and employees, is entitled to a safe work environment, and NT RCMP will investigate any comments that may be perceived as intimidating thoroughly and charge accordingly.”
