Yellowknife, NWT – Some Yellowknifers will be braving icy cold temperatures this weekend to support Special Olympics in the territory.
The NWT Law Enforcement Torch Run will be holding its sixth annual Freezin’ for a Reason.
Participants will be jumping into Long Lake or can take part in the “too chicken to plunge” raffle if they don’t want to get wet.
Roxanne Hudym is director of the NWT Law Enforcement Torch Run.
“They have managed to expand their programs. They’ve added speed skating, gymnastics and other athletics. They’ve also opened up their programs to a wider age range which has been a phenomenal success for them. The funds also allow Special Olympics to send Olympians to competitions outside of the territory.”
Hudym says 39 people have signed up to take part in the plunge so far.
Freezin’ for a Reason will take place on Saturday between 11 and 1:30 at Fred Henne Park.
