Folk on the Rocks adds artists, gender diversity to 2015 line-up

Folk on the Rocks has added four more artists to its 2015 line-up and all of them are female.

The announcement was made by festival organizers Thursday and comes nearly a week after the first batch of confirmed artists was revealed.

New confirmed acts for the 2015 Folk on the Rocks include:

JUNO Award winning artists Tagaq and Gilday are no strangers to the music scene in Yellowknife.

While Tagaq made her first appearance at the summer festival in 1999, Yellowknife’s Gilday has established herself as one of the territory’s best-known artists.

Caroline and Lightfoot meanwhile, will attempt to bring a new sound to the festival.

Yellowknife’s Caroline has just released her debut album Life on Earth. Lightfoot, who hails from Hamilton, Ontario, has also recently released a new album called Every Time My Mind Runs Wild.

Folks on the Rocks organizers say 38% of performers booked for the 2015 festival are female.

“This is in direct contrast to other festivals around the world that have been maligned for the lack of female representation in their 2015 programming,” read a press release issued by the festival.
