Yellowknife RCMP General Investigation Section are investigating information they received on the evening of June 1st, of a suspicious person in a vehicle who allegedly requested a young girl to get into his vehicle.
A 12-year-old girl riding her bike in the Finlayson Dr and Banke Cr area of Yellowknife was spoken to by an adult man who was driving what is believed to be a small white car. He allegedly talked with her and demanded that she get into the vehicle. The girl had no physical or verbal interaction with the driver and was able to ride away.
The driver is described as a white man with “tanned” colour skin, black hair and is about 6 feet tall.
RCMP are requesting anyone who may have been in the area, between approximately 6:00 to 6:30 p.m., to contact them to report any sightings of a matching car, person or suspicious activity.
They add that there are no indicators that this is related to any previously reported interaction of youth and vehicles. This is the second time this year a young girl has been reportedly approached by a suspicious vehicle.
Police will be conducting additional patrols in the area to ensure public safety. The RCMP reminds parents and caregivers to be thorough in educating children in their care with regards to the dangers of speaking to strangers and to immediately report suspicious activity.
