Weapons training taking place on Great Slave Lake Saturday

Army reservists from Yellowknife’s C Company will conduct weapons training on Great Slave Lake over the weekend.

Major Conrad Schubert says the exercise will take place near Inner Island, roughly 16 km south of Yellowknife and 12 km south of Dettah, on Saturday.

During daylight hours, soldiers will be firing live ammunition in a designated range.

Schubert says the site has been placed a safe distance away from traffic and fishing areas, and will be manned by sentries.

This is the fourth year the company has held the exercise, to enhance members’ abilities in Arctic conditions.

C Company’s part-time members include students, RCMP officers and government employees among others.
