MP McLeod announces over $6.9 M in skills training for Tłı̨chǫ

Today Michael McLeod, Member of Parliament for the Northwest Territories announced an investment of over $6.9 M to provide skills training and work experience to people in the Tłı̨chǫ region.
The $6,952,418 investment under the Skills Partnership Fund (SPF) aims to which encourage Indigenous organizations to form
partnerships with governments, businesses and community organizations to provide skills training that contributes
to long-term, meaningful employment for Indigenous people.

“Investments like this from the Skills and Partnership Program will make a real difference in employing and empowering many people in the Tłı̨ chǫ communities,” says MP McLeod. McLeod says helping people get skills and experience is “a priority.”

George Mackenzie, Tłı̨chǫ Grand Chief says the government’s support of the program shows an “ongoing commitment
to build the capacity ofTłı̨ chǫ Citizens and enable participation in the economy of the Tłı̨ chǫ region, NWT and Canada.”

“This funding enables Tłı̨ chǫ Government to deliver a three-year program of integrated, harmonized, training-to-employment
services for Tłı̨chǫ Citizens in Behchokǫ̀, Gamètı̀ and Wekweètı̀,” said Chief Mackenzie. This funding will help 508 under or unemployed Indigenous peoples gain skills training in a “uniquely adaptive training model” in 4 different communities within the Tłı̨ chǫ region.
