NWT residents awarded for excellence and dedication

Five awards were handed out at the 7th annual Minister’s Culture and Heritage Circle today in Yellowknife.

The ceremony was held in the Grand Hall at the Legislative Building. It was hosted by the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, Alfred Moses.

“Culture and heritage plays a significant role in personal well being,” said Moses. “Community, resiliency, language and identity; together they have the power to build a strong Territory and that’s what we see here with us today.”

The five recipients were:

  • Dang-Dang Gruben, Inuvik,  Youth Category
  • Catherine Bell Sanguez, Jean Marie River,  Elder Category
  • Kiera-Dawn Kolson , Yellowknife,  Individual Category
  • JBT Dance Group, Fort Smith,  Group Category
  • Dene Nahjo, Yellowknife, Minister’s Choice

The awards are given annually to those who exemplify excellence and dedication to the promotion and preservation of the arts, culture and heritage in their community or region.
