Ice, alongside Parallel Wireless, will be launching a new technological device to provide better service with an all-IP virtualized RAN (vRAN).

Eugina Jordan, Vice-President of Marketing for Parallel Wireless, says the units can be deployed on any street furniture or existing towers and rooftops. The unit’s compact size and easy set-up process are allowing people from across the North to have access to internet and cellphone data easier than ever before. It avoids the need for big, looming towers that take up space.

No additional cabinet is required, it’s so easy,” says Jordan. “Going forward, Ice, will fully utilize the [Software-Defined Radio] capability of the technology to incorporate both 3G and 4G/LTE, and 5G in the future, into a single integrated solution that delivers the smallest site footprint.

With the harsh winters that the North experiences, Ice and Parallel have made it easier for the deployment of the units, with some deliveries to remote areas made possible via snowmobile. The whole project took about two months to complete, which includes travel, site acquisition, site preparation.

Jordan says that the units come with, “backhaul flexibility“, saying that it allows them to adapt better, for longer.

Today they are using satellite, but in the future, once fiber is brought to those locations, that transport source could be used as well.
