Impaired driving charges laid after hit-and-run in Yellowknife

A Yellowknife man has been charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and failing to stop at the scene of an accident following a hit-and-run in the city’s Kam Lake area Sunday morning.

At approximately 11:40am, police responded to a report of a pedestrian being hit by a pickup truck near 41 Kam Lake Road.

A male driver then fled the scene but was tracked down and arrested nearby. Meanwhile, the pedestrian was transported to Stanton Hospital for treatment.

Their exact condition isn’t known at this time.

Following an investigation, 18-year-old Joshua Andrews was charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and failing to stop at the scene of the accident.

Andrews remains in custody and is scheduled to court appearance in Yellowknife on Tuesday.

“Yellowknife RCMP would like to thank the citizens of Yellowknife who assisted in this investigation,” read a statement issued by police on Tuesday.

“The RCMP will continue to work towards making Canadian streets and communities safer.”
