Local hospital reaches new highs raising over 300K

Stanton Territorial Hospital’s fundraising team has just raised over $300,000  for much needed hospital equipment, after a hugely successful raffle and unprecedented support for their 50 / 50 draw.

For decades, the Stanton Foundation has been raising funds to help the hospital to continue to expand services, develop new programs, and provide upgraded equipment for enhanced treatment for the people across N.W.T. and the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut.

“I’m in awe and beyond grateful! It’s way more that I expected. The 50/50 is the highest we’ve had since we started with online raffles in 2020! The generosity of the people in the North is by far the best we could ask for!,” Lang told True North FM today.

Patty Olexin-Lang, executive director Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation, said people from across the territories, from Fort Smith, Tuktoyaktuk, Paulatuk, Inuvik, Norman Wells, all across the North picked up tickets for the raffle and the 50/50.

To date, the foundation has raised over $10 million dollars to help purchase essential medical equipment to meet the healthcare needs of the community. As of today they added over $300,000  to that critically needed basket of funding.

The proceeds from this year’s raffle and combined 50/50 will go towards funding equipment for the Stanton Territorial Hospital. The ticket purchase deadline is noon today.

As of today, the 50/50 draw has raised $142,440 and the raffle has raised  $185,475, for a combined total of $327,915.

Last week, the foundation’s  50/50 Draw Event, shot past $100,000. Lang shared the exciting news with Brock Cullen of True North FM, who has been following the foundation’s fundraising journey on social media.

Overnight our 50/50 on our $100,000, it’s actually $100,340 right now,” gushed Lang after refreshing her screen.

“It’s taken off the last few days, we’re really excited. The raffletickets are still available along with the 50/50 tickets until Monday at noon is coming and then we’ll do the draw for Snowmobile and a quad,” said Lang, who explained that this means one ticket holder will take home half of the pot, about $50,000,” she said.

The foundation had aimed to raise $100,000, and surpassing that goal was a joyful moment Lang shared, giving a big shout-out to everyone who participated.

Stanton Territorial also just announced the date for their sixth annual Mud Run in Yellowknife, taking place at the Ski Club on September 13.

This year’s mud run mission is to raise at least $100,000 for cancer-related equipment at Stanton Territorial Hospital.

Registration fees have been lowered this year. New highlights of the event for this year will include added incentive prizes, along with prizes for the “Highest Adult, Youth, Team” and even a prize for the “Best Dressed.”

“We want to remind everyone that this is more than just a muddy good time—it’s about raising funds and awareness for cancer care and running for a loved one that may have been or is affected by cancer,” said Tanya Kearney, RFOL Chair.

“Every dollar helps bring better care and equipment to patients from across the North.”

The event will once again feature music, a community BBQ, and loads of muddy fun for all ages and fitness levels. Whether you walk, run, or dance through the course, you’re making a meaningful impact.
