Local McDonald’s restaurants in Yellowknife surpassed previous records by raising over $19,000 for Ronald McDonald House in Alta. on McHappy Day.
May 8 was the 31st McHappy Day in the city of Yellowknife and across Canada.
Alex Bornilla, who is the owner of McDonald’s in Yellowknife, spoke with True North FM about the “awesome” things Ronald McDonald House is doing to help sick kids and their families.
“So the Ronald McDonald Charities is for sick kids and their families, especially for us in the North if we need to travel with our sick child or to get Edmonton, obviously the cost boarding (is expensive) so the Ronald McDonald House takes care of all their boarding so they can focus on recovery with their sick child,” said Bornilla.
In Yellowknife, there are two McDonald’s restaurants and 100 per cent of the proceeds from both restaurants went to the cause.
On May 11, McDonald’s announced on social media that over $11.3 million was raised across the country, which officials said was a record-breaking fundraising total for the cause.
“Thank you for helping countless families with sick children stay together, at RMHC across Canada,” said representatives from McDonald’s Canada in a post yesterday.
McHappy Day is McDonald’s biggest fundraising event of the year and it began back in 1977. Each year the charity works with hundreds of thousands of families across Canada.
