Three Facing Charges After Hay River RCMP Seize Crack-cocaine and Fentanyl

Three people are now facing charges after Hay River RCMP seized illegal drugs from a residence on Kátł’odeeche First Nation on Tuesday.

On April 22 Hay River RCMP arrived at a residence in Kátł’odeeche First Nation after a complaint was called in to police regarding the “unlawful” presence of persons at a residence.

 “Officers attended the residence and found three people inside along with a quantity of suspected crack-cocaine, fentanyl, cash and other evidence of drug trafficking in plain view,” Hay River RCMP reported. 

All three parties who were inside the residence were arrested. 

Officers recovered approximately 43 grams of suspected fentanyl, approximately 41 grams of suspected crack-cocaine and over $5000 in cash.

36-year-old Rono Kim of Ontario, 58-year-old Wallace Burke of Hay River and 24-year-old Faith Martel of Kátł’odeeche First Nation are now facing a number of charges: 

  •         Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (2 counts)
  •         Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

Kim, Burke and Martel appeared before a Justice of the Peace and have been remanded into custody.

Hay River RCMP thanked the Kátł’odeeche First Nation for their assistance and support in combatting the illicit drug trade.
