Yellowknife’s Chamber of Commerce is welcoming a new Executive Director.
True North FM’s very own Matt Halliday has just begun his tenure as the Chamber of Commerce’s new Executive Director, taking over from Melissa Syer, who will be remaining on the team for the next few weeks to ensure a smooth transition.
Halliday is bringing with him over two decades of business leadership experience, as well as a degree in Business Management from Sprott-Shaw College. Some of his previous experience includes leading multiple different departments at Walmart in Chilliwack, BC. He worked for several years at Yellowknife’s Staples location, eventually earning it the Western Canada Store of the Year Award in 2020. Most recently, Halliday served as the General Sales Manager with us here at True North FM, where he worked constantly to connect with many different businesses across the city and the Territory.
Having already served on the Board of Directors for the Chamber over the last year, Halliday felt that applying for Executive Director was simply the next step.
“Working with the Board of Directors over the last year was a fantastic intro into what the Chamber of Commerce does. Being able to make an impact, and looking at the Executive director role is another way to have an impact in the business community.”
Halliday and his family have set down their roots in Yellowknife, and in his time at True North FM, he demonstrated his commitment to improving the community in any way he can.
“Yellowknife is a unique and resilient community, and I’m energized by the opportunity to work closely with the Chamber’s diverse and experienced board members to implement strategic initiatives. I look forward to supporting the local business community and helping it thrive.”
