As the winter season continues, the City of Yellowknife has shared a few reminders to residents on some of the responsibilities that come with taking care of their properties.
For businesses and homes, any sidewalk space directly out front of one’s property should be regularly shovelled and kept clear of snow. This applies to any property within the Central Business District, Franklin Avenue from Matonabee Street to Old Airport Road, and from 44th Street to School Draw Avenue. If sidewalks remain blocked by snow, the relevant property owner could end up receiving a fine, or other kind of penalty.
When it comes to shovelling, any snow accumulated on the sidewalk may be placed on the road. However, snow from any other part of the property must be placed somewhere else. Any additional snow placed on the road can greatly increase the volume, and make it more difficult for drivers to control their vehicles.
Finally, any property that makes use of trucked water and sewage services must make sure that the service connection points are clear of snow and ice. If the access point is blocked, these services will not be able to be performed until the situation is resolved.
