The Inuvik RCMP are currently investigating a case of arson that recently took place within the community.
Just after 1:00 am, local officers were informed of a building fire on Inuit Road in Inuvik. By the time officers arrived at the scene, the Inuvik Fire Department was already responding to the situation. Initial evidence showed that the fire had been intentionally set, and this is also not the first time that this building had been targeted, as an unsuccessful arson attempt was reported on November 20th.
Inuvik RCMP is asking for anyone in the community who may have additional information on the matter to step forward and contact the detachment at 777-1111.
Additionally, the RCMP are asking for any residents who live in the area of Inuit Road to check their home security camers for any footage that may aid in the investigation. The RCMP is looking for any footage from 12:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. on November 25th. Any footage from November 16th to November 25th that shows a blue, hatchback SUV could also be useful, as the vehicle is believed to be involved.
