Alberta Drug Trafficker Sentenced One Year after Arrest in Fort Resolution

An Alberta man who was arrested in Fort Resolution last year for trafficking drugs has just been sentenced.

In November of 2023, Fort Smith officers carried out a search warrant in the community that resulted in the arrest of several people. Among them was Abel Leule of Alberta. Leule was located in Fort Resolution, illegally hiding in an elder’s residence. Once he was arrested, he received multiple criminal and drug-related charges.

Earlier this month, on August 9th, Leule’s sentencing was completed, where he was found guilty, and has been sentenced to 19 months of custody, a 20-year firearm prohibitation, and three years of probation with the condition to remain outside of the NWT.

The RCMP are calling the outcome “positive,” and view this case as a highlight for the collaboration between the “G” Division detachments. Fort Resolution officers have expressed their thanks to the members of the public who provided information for this case.
