A man was recently arrested in Hay River after he was found wielding a knife around the community.
Police were informed of this man on July 8th. Officers proceeded to the downtown area, where they arrested three people who were believed to be involved and confiscated two knives. Two of the people who were arrested were later released without charge.
Further investigation resulted in the third person, 41-year-old Randall Mandeville, being charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. He was held before a Justice of the Peace, and has been released to appear in Hay River Territorial Court on August 26th.
The investigation has suggested that Mandeville may have been threatening the nearby MLA constituency office, but this has been proven to be false. He was instead involved in an altercation with an unknown individual, who was able to flee the scene prior to the police arriving on the scene.
No injuries occurred as a result of this incident, and there is no further risk to the public.
