Recent fire activity in the NWT seems to be slowing down.
With most fires in the NWT now listed as either under control or being monitored, there are only five fires that are currently being actioned at this time. In their last several updates, NWT Fire has been focussing mainly on the fire at the NWT/Alberta border.
Operations on the NWT side continue to focus mainly on structure protection, and there have been no major changes to the fire’s behavior in the last several days. Assistance with the fire is being provided by crews from Saskatchewan, Beaufort Delta, and the North Slave region, as well as heavy equipment and air support teams.
Most of the fire activity is happening to the west of Highway 1. As such, any increase in activity could result in the closure of the highway with very little warning.
