With a new calendar year, comes a new batch of New Year’s resolutions.
A survey from Forbes has shown some of the most common New Year’s resolutions in North America for 2024. As usual, many are based in mental and physical self improvement.
The top five most common resolutions are Improve fitness, improve finances, improve mental health, lose weight, and improve diet. This is a slight shift from last year, which saw mental health as the most common resolution with 45 percent of respondents. This year, that number has dropped down to 39%.
The rest of the list is more diverse when it comes to goals. Another highly ranked resolution is to make more time for loved ones. Further down the list, learning a new skill and making more time for hobbies also make an appearance.
While many resolutions are repeated year after year, it is also a common occurrence for these goals to be abandoned or forgotten about. Forbes also reports that 22 percent of respondents admit that they fail to keep up with their resolutions after two to three months, and only one percent report that they manage to stick with it for a full twelve months.
There are several reasons for failed resolutions, including people setting unrealistic goals or simply setting too many resolutions to realistically keep up with.
