Yellowknife Preparing for Annual Fireworks Display

Helping to wrap up the Holiday Season, the City of Yellowknife is once again putting together a fireworks display for New Year’s Eve.

The show will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 31. Residents can enjoy the show from the Somba K’e Civic Plaza, as the fireworks will be set off on Frame Lake.

The City is advising residents that if anyone is planning to view the fireworks on or near Frame Lake, they should take care to avoid the launch area. A map is available on the City website showing which areas are safe to view the show, and which area residents are required to stay away from.

Residents are asked to stay clear of the fireworks area until noon on Monday, January 1, to allow crews to complete a safety inspection in the daylight.

Residents are also asked to leave their pets at home, as the sudden loud noises and bright colours can cause distress to many animals, especially dogs.
