Canada’s Premiers began their annual summer meeting by addressing wildfire concerns that are affecting nearly every province this season.
Premier Caroline Cochrane was in attendance and highlighted several concerns regarding the NWT including housing and Arctic security.
“The 2023 Council of the Federation meeting is off to a great start,” Premier Cochrane shares on social media. “Today we focused on strong communities, including health care challenges, labour market shortages, public safety concerns, Arctic sovereignty, housing, and the cost of living,” she adds.
Arctic security is a strong issue in 2023, addressed by several levels of government in the north and south. According to the Council of the Federation, promoting positive federal-provincial-territorial relations continues to be a priority.
The meeting continues on July 12th in Winnipeg.
