Fire crews made significant progress fighting the Hay River/KFN fire over the weekend. As of May 28th at 9:00 a.m. the wildfire remains classified as Being Held.
On Saturday, crews tackled spot fires at the southeast flank of the flames and successfully held control lines near Hay River.
High winds continue to be a concern for crews as a potential shift to northerly winds could put a strain on control lines in the south.
According to NWT Fire, crews continued to extinguish hotspots within the populated areas of KFN to support a safe return, but flareups are expected due to conditions.
