The highway between High Level and Enterprise is still closed for all other traffic, the department advises, as Alberta Wildfire crews continue to battle two out of control fires in the High Level area.
The rapidly growing Chuckegg Creek fire, three kilometres southeast of High Level, is at 230,000 hectares according to an update at 11 a.m. Thursday. The town is still under a mandatory evacuation order and several routes in and out of High Level remain closed.
A mandatory evacuation order has also been issued for the community of Steen River as crews fight a 17,419 hectare fire in the area. Alberta Wildfire says there is a total of 142 wildland firefighters, 23 helicopters and one airtanker are positioned throughout the High Level area.
A reminder that #NWThwy7 (Liard Highway) to #BritishColumbia remains open as an alternative to #NWThwy1. @511Alberta // Nous vous rappelons que la #TNOroute7 (Route Liard) vers la #ColombieBritannique reste ouverte comme alternative à la #TNOroute1.
