In an act to increase GNWT transparency, Minister for the Department of Finance, Robert C. McLeod, has released the GNWT Public Account information for 2016-17.
The reports are being released ahead of the Legislative Assembly. The Public Accounts were signed October 26th and received an unqualified audit opinion.
The Public Accounts are coming with a plain language companion document. The document will act as a make-shift translator in order for the public to better understand the Government’s finances.
In a statement, the GNWT stressed a focus on Infrastructure and how it will improve the Territory.
“Infrastructure investments focus on health care, education and transportation and make the Northwest Territories a safer, more competitive and productive Territory, while supporting the creation of jobs in construction and related industries.“
