Yellowknife RCMP announced that four people are facing charges after a large shipment of liquor was seized en route to Gamètì.
The police said that the investigation has been ongoing, with reports of the illegal shipment first received a few months ago.
“In May of 2025, Yellowknife RCMP were alerted by a local airline that a large quantity of liquor had been discovered on a privately chartered plane destined for the community of Gamètì, which has a liquor prohibition,” said the RCMP.
Police officers initiated an investigation which led to the seizure 92 bottles of liquor.
The RCMP has not released the names of the individuals. Three men who are 73, 49 and 55 years of age and one woman who is 54-years-old.are now facing charges under the Liquor Act, including exposing liquor for sale, contrary to section 74 of the Liquor Act.
All four persons are scheduled to appear in court later this month.
