Police have charged 22-year-old in connection with last week’s early morning search following reports of forced confinement, which led to a search at the 5400 block of 52 Street in the city of Yellowknife.
The 22-year-old is currently facing charges including:
- Being unlawfully at large, contrary to section 145(1) of the Criminal Code
The RCMP said that at the time of his arrest, he was subject to a Canada-wide warrant for a parole violation.
Police reported today that the man appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody.
The other persons arrested in relation to the incident were released without charge, said police.
Officials said that the investigation remains ongoing. Police reported that the involved parties are known to each other and the matter has been tied to the illicit drug trade in Yellowknife.
On Friday, police reported that early that morning, three people were arrested involving potential forced confinement.
“Several days prior, police received a report that two people had been held against their will in the residence and later released. As part of the investigation into this matter, Yellowknife RCMP’s General Investigation Section, with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team and other police resources, executed a search warrant at the residence in question at approximately 4:30 a.m. this morning,” said police.
Police urged anyone with information to come forward.
