The Yellowknife Fire Division and the Municipal Enforcement Division responded to an electrical fire early this morning at a home in the city of Yellowknife. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries.
On Monday, June 16 at about 8:00 a.m., the Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) responded to a report of fire and smoke at a residence on Forman Court.
“Upon arrival, firefighters determined that the incident was an electrical fire located in the homeowner’s basement. Before YKFD’s arrival, the homeowner had shut off power to the affected appliance, and the fire had extinguished itself,” said officials in an announcement today.
Firefighters entered the residence. Inside the home, smoke had spread throughout, distributed through the ventilation system. Fire crews assisted the homeowner in ventilating the building and confirmed there was no presence of carbon monoxide.
Officials confirmed that no one was injured and that damage to the home was minimal.
“YKFD has confirmed that no one was injured. The home sustained only minimal smoke damage, and the residents have already been able to return,” Saxon Chung, who is the corporate communications advisor for the city, told True North FM.
