A 32-year-old man is facing assault charges after alleged assault on Saturday in Fort Smith.
Fort Smith RCMP announced today that the man, who is from Fort Smith, has been taken into custody after an alleged assault involving a firearm at a residence.
On May 31 at approximately 5:26 p.m., Fort Smith RCMP received a report that an assault had occurred at a residence in the community and that the assailant had struck the victim with a firearm, said police. No shots were reported to have been fired.
“Officers attended the residence and arrested the subject without incident. The residence was held by police while a search warrant was obtained. On June 1st, officers executed the search warrant on the residence and seized a quantity of cash and ammunition. The firearm was not located,” said the Fort Smith RCMP in an announcement today.
A 32-year-old man from Fort Smith is now facing a number of charges including:
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88(!) of the Criminal Code
- Possession of a weapon contrary to a weapons prohibition order, contrary to section 117.01(1) of the Criminal Code
- Assault with a weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code
- Possession of a firearm while knowing possession is unauthorized, contrary to section 92(1) of the Criminal Code
RCMP reported that the man appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody.
